What is Carbon dioxide?

Carbon dioxide is nonflammable, colorless, and odorless in the gaseous and liquid states. The gas is approximately one and one-half times as heavy as air. Carbon dioxide is a minor but important constituent of the atmosphere, averaging about 0.03% or 300 ppm by volume

Carbon dioxide can be stored as a bulk liquid in large storage vessels with capacities up to 50 tons and larger. The liquid in the tank is maintained between 245 psig and 305 psig. When the tank pressure reaches 305 psig, a mechanical air-cooled refrigeration unit is activated which cools the tank contents and thereby reduces the pressure to about 295 psig. When pressure drops to 245 psig, a portion of the liquid is passed through a pressure buildup coil which vaporizes the liquid in the coil, and the resultant vapor is sent to the tank’s vapor space until a tank pressure of 255 psig is attained. In isolated instances where carbon dioxide usage is extremely low, heat leak into the tank is sufficient to maintain the contents above 245 psig and a pressure buildup coil is not needed. The bulk storage tank can either supply gas from the vapor space or liquid from the bottom of the tank. If warmer carbon dioxide gas is desired, vapor is withdrawn from the vapor space in the storage tank and superheated. Bulk storage tanks are filled by liquid transport trailers.

Bulk carbon dioxide is typically stored as a liquid in storage tanks with capacities of 6, 14, 26, and 50 tons. Tanks are insulated by polyurethane foam with a vapor barrier which provides weather protection. The tanks are fabricated from carbon steel according to ASME Standards. Carbon dioxide is maintained below 305 psig by a refrigeration unit and above 245 psig with a pressure buildup coil so that carbon dioxide can be stored for an indefinite period without venting.

CARBON DIOXIDE RECOVERY PLANT

CARBON DIOXIDE recovery plants are used to recover carbon dioxide arising from various processes like Distilleries, Fertilizers, Alcohol preparation, various chemical processes, Fermentation process, Lime stone chemical reactions etc. The basic object of these carbon dioxide recovery plants is to trap this CARBON DIOXIDE and them purify and liquefy the same for further use.
The process involves various stages as follows:
Trapping or collection of escaping carbon dioxide gas vapours by using a buffer balloon 
Passing through foam separator 
Passing through gas scrubber where all water soluble impurities are remove 
Drying of carbon dioxide 
Compressing of carbon dioxide in carbon dioxide compressor 
Removal of other impurities and odours in a regenerative purification and deodorizing system
Liquefaction of carbon dioxide in refrigeration system 
Storage of liquid carbon dioxide in a carbon dioxide-storage tank.

CARBON DIOXIDE TRANSPORT TANK

Liquid carbon dioxide transport tank used for transportation of liquid carbon dioxide from one place to other. These tanks are equipped with safety fittings, unloading pump, valves, and other accessories as per CCOE norms. CCOE requirement the tanks are available in various sizes like 13kl, 18kl etc. A 200 mm thick PUF insulation is provided on tank to prevent evaporation of liquid.

Liquid Carbon di-oxide is transported from liquefaction plants to customer storage installations in large quantities through insulted transport tank system in low Pressure form. It mainly contains insulated coded vessels, similar to storage vessel with dimensions to suit particular vehicle model. All the valves, safety fittings, liquid transfer pumps and other instruments are housed inside of a lockable back cabin. The necessary approval and documentation is provided including mounting arrangement to get statutory approval of CCOE and other road transport authorities. The capacity ranges from 1 MT to 50 MT depending upon customer requirement and vehicle model selected.

CARBON DIOXIDE PRODUCTION PLANT

Carbon dioxide production plants are used to recover carbon dioxide arising from flue gases from boilers, generators and other processes. The basic object of these carbon dioxide recovery plants is to trap this carbon dioxide and them purify and liquefy the same for further use.

The process involves various stages as follows:
Trapping or collection of escaping carbon dioxide gas vapours by passing the flue gas through absorber with aqueous solution of monoethanolamine (MEA)
Passing through foam separator 
Passing through gas scrubber where all water soluble impurities are remove 
Drying of carbon dioxide 
Compressing of carbon dioxide in carbon dioxide compressor 
Removal of other impurities and odours in a regenerative purification and deodorizing system
Liquefaction of carbon dioxide in refrigeration system
